Course
The Col de l'Izoard cuts through one of the most arid landscapes in the French Alps: the Casse Déserte, a chaos of eroded limestone towers and ochre scree fields at 2,360 meters. The Grand Trail de l'Izoard orbits this terrain from Villar-Saint-Pancrace in the Hautes-Alpes. The flagship race — L'Izo'Hard — covers 55 kilometers and 4,000 meters of elevation gain on technical trails and exposed rocky passages.
The Briançonnais enjoys record sunshine and dry air that deceive fatigue: effort feels light until the quads give out on the stony descents. The Col de l'Izoard itself is a mandatory passage, with views over the Queyras and Écrins massifs. UTMB-indexed, the Grand Trail de l'Izoard is a human-scale race that drops runners into one of the finest mineral landscapes in the Southern Alps.
