Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to run in the Alps?
The main season runs from June to September. July and August offer the most stable conditions, but also the hottest valley temperatures. June and September are ideal for mid-altitude races.
Do I need specific gear for alpine trail?
Yes: a waterproof jacket, emergency blanket, charged phone and whistle are mandatory on most alpine races. Poles are recommended for ultras with heavy elevation gain.
How do I prepare for altitude?
Train in the mountains as much as possible. Above 2,500 m, oxygen levels drop. Stay well hydrated and slow your pace at the passes. An altitude training camp 2-3 weeks before the race is ideal.
